Dreamed of retiring somewhere warm? A beautiful region of Spain has been crowned one of the best destinations in Europe for retired British expats.

Spain has long been one of Europe’s leading destinations for British expats but where’s the best location for retirees?

With secluded coves and pretty villages, it’s not hard to see why so many British retirees are drawn to the Costa Brava.

While it’s a leading tourist destination during summer, expats will find peace and quiet in spots off the main tourist track.

While the Costa Brava isn’t quite as warm as southern Spain, winter temperatures rarely drop far below 10 degrees.

Girona is often thought of as the capital of the Costa Brava and the city’s Cinema Museum and Art Museum are well worth visiting.

Expats will be in easy reach of the French city of Toulouse, the capital of France’s Occitanie region. Known as La Ville Rose on account of its pink buildings, the city has a relaxed vibe.

The Costa Brava is home to some of Spain’s best seafood restaurants and retirees might struggle to choose their favourite.

It has become more complicated for Britons to retire to the EU after Brexit although some politicians in France are hoping to make things simpler for second home owners.

If Spain doesn’t appeal, a dreamy Greek island where many residents live until their 90s is a tempting option.
