Who needs to collect frequent flyer points when there are actual tangible Delta Airline trading cards up for grabs?

TikTok users have found a new reason to fly after discovering there is actually a little-known card-trading game of the sky – and all you need to do is ask the pilot politely.

Creator Sarowar Ahmed posted a short clip on the video-sharing platform in November, showing himself asking a Delta pilot for a card before his flight.

The pilot acknowledges the request, asking his first officer if he has any cards with him before handing two over to the jubilant passenger.

Meanwhile another TikTok creator Vic proudly showed off his newly acquired Delta trading cards to the camera

‘Got my first trading card!!! Ask your pilot for one before or after your flight!’ the enthused flyer captioned the video, which has been viewed a whopping 19.4 million times.

He showed his new prized possessions off to the camera, which showed a Boeing 737 aircraft with a holographic background – presumably the type of plane he was flying on.

Celebrity barber Victor Fontanez also decided to try his luck with scoring a card, filming his quest and posting it to TikTok, amassing more than 6.7 million views.

His card was slightly different, with the Delta logo in the corner but showing the tail of a Boeing 767.

Gobsmacked viewers were astounded – and excited – over the seemingly secret collectibles.

‘Just googled “Delta Airlines trading cards”. Mind blown. They have been doing this since 2004,’ one TikTok user marveled.

‘Pilots better be prepared. Everyone gonna ask for one, they look awesome,’ another chimed in.

‘We’ve been worrying about airline points when the real game has been airline trading cards this whole time,’ someone else joked.

‘I didn’t realize this was trending!’ one user commented on the video.

‘As a delta flight attendant I’ve only seen 2 people ask for these! they have been around forever and are so fun!’

Some said they’ve tried it with other airlines unsuccessfully.

‘I didn’t know it was delta only. I asked an AlaskaAirlines pilot today. he said he doesn’t have any. he gave my wings instead. lol,’ they said.

Some TikTok users pointed out that it could be a safety issue to approach pilots in the cockpit, advising passengers that it may not be guaranteed every time.

A spokesperson told the DailyMail.com Delta trading cards were exclusive to its pilots, and were a way for them to inspire a passion for aviation and loyalty to the airline.

Although new to TikTok users, the trading cards have actually been around for almost 20 years

There have been six total trading card collections in total and have been updated every five years

Go grab you Delta trading cards next time you fly 😭💪🏼 @delta thank yall!!!

‘When they’re not operating some of the coolest jets in the skies, Delta pilots love this special opportunity to share their passion of aviation with our customers using these collectible trading cards, with each featuring a different aircraft in our fleet corresponding to the type of aircraft each pilot flies.

‘Pilots carrying these fan-favorite cards are more than happy to hand one out to any customer that asks nicely, as they look to add to or begin, their newest favorite collection.’

The current ones in circulation were created by Delta’s ‘Window Seat’ visual design team in 2022, with direct involvement from Flight Operations employees and the pilots themselves voting on the design. A popularity vote decides the final look.

There have been six total trading card collections since the program started almost 20 years ago and they are updated every five years, with each featuring a different aircraft from Delta’s fleet corresponding to the plane each pilot flies, the spokesperson explained.

The current design went into circulation October 2022 with 11 card types.
