Spain has confirmed that unvaccinated Britons will still have to take a negative test or show a proof of recovery certificate to travel. The country has extended the rules for all travellers from third countries, including the UK.

British travellers visiting Spain this autumn will need to follow certain rules on vaccination to travel.

Any British traveller visiting the mainland, Canary islands or Balearics will need to meet the requirements.

Spain vaccination rules

• Double vaccination within 270 days of a second jab or have had a booster jab
• Negative PCR test result within 72 hours of departure or negative antigen test within 24 hours of departure
• Official recovery certificate between 11 days and six months of testing negative after having Covid

The rules have been extended by Spain and will be in place until at least November 15.

It means that unvaccinated Britons will need to fork out for a travel test if they don’t have a recovery certificate.

The rules apply to every British traveller over the age of 12 years old. Passengers do not need to fill out a passenger locator form.

Children under 12 do not need to present any Covid documentation to travel to Spain this autumn.

Teenagers over the age of 12 but under the age of 18 do not need a booster jab and are considered vaccinated beyond 270 days.

Spain has some of the toughest Covid travel rules in the whole of Europe as many countries have dropped their restrictions.

It is one of the UK’s top tourism destinations and millions of Britons travel for holidays every year.

Although temperatures drop on the mainland during the winter, the Canary Islands are a top winter sun destination.

Unvaccinated Britons will need to pay for Covid travel tests if they don’t have a proof of recovery certificate.

A PCR test at home from Randox costs £43 with a discount home while a lateral flow test at home costs £13.50.

Cheaper tests are available with click and collect options. Travellers must make sure their tests meet Spain’s requirements.

Spain could refuse passengers entry if they don’t meet Covid requirements or travellers could be required to pay for a test once they arrive.
