Dozens of clips follow the ‘expectation vs reality’ theme, with holidaymakers showcasing footage of what they hoped to see when they got to their destination compared with the disappointing scene that greeted them.
Among the most startling contrasts is a clip posted by photographer and writer Emily Byrski, following her trip to Rainbow Mountain in Peru.
Her expectation, she reveals, was of a vibrant peak and blue skies but instead she was greeted by snow and sleet, and said she ‘almost died’ due to the lack of oxygen at high altitude.

TikToker @randomanna1 visited the pink lakes on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. While she was expecting rose-hued waters the lake appeared more of a muddy color on her visit.
She said: ‘I was kinda disappointed but it was beautiful anyway.’
Jordyn Sleek was also expecting powdery white sands when she visited the beaches along Highway 30A on the Gulf Coast of Florida in July.
But due to the time of year she visited, the coastline was carpeted with mounds of green seaweed.
Boasting natural and manmade thermal pools, Grutas de Tolantongo in Mexico draws hundreds and thousands of visitors a year for its beauty, with pictures online showcasing its piercing blue waters and pristine surroundings.
However, @farfarwego’s ‘reality’ video shows a more depressing scene, with trash on the pathways and some of the pools drained of water.
Overcrowded places are another gripe with the traveling TikTokers.
