‘Spectacular’ UK destination is this year’s most popular

The travel team at Vrbo have revealed this year’s most popular staycation destinations, with one “spectacular” hotspot in the lead.

Staycations remain popular among British tourists with many holidaymakers opting to stay within the UK this year.

Although these spots didn’t make the top 10 ranking, the team saw an increase of interest in the Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly and Guernsey.

The gorgeous Isles of Scilly are thought to be one of the Princess of Wales’ favourite holiday destinations and are often known as the “Cornish Caribbean”.

However, this year’s most popular spot was a better-known destination and the perfect place to enjoy the summer.

Unsurprisingly, Cornwall topped the rankings as this year’s most desirable destination for a summer staycation.

While the majority of tourists visit the region for its beaches, Cornwall has many other attractions to discover.

One of the region’s best-rated activities on Tripadvisor is the Minack Theatre, an open-air stage with dramatic sea views.

A tourist “daviescharlotte” wrote: “Spectacular views of the crystal clear water, cliffs and beach nearby. The theatre itself is stunning.”

Tourists could also visit the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden or head out on a walk from Looe to Polperro.

Neighbouring Devon grabbed second place on the list while Norfolk rounded off the top three most popular spots.

Dorset took fourth place with Cumbria taking the last spot in the top five. Tourists heading to the Lake District will need to book quickly to secure accommodation for summer.

The Highlands were the most popular destination in Scotland with one of the region’s beaches recently named in the world’s 50 best ranking.
