With just seven Mondays to go until Christmas, the festive season is right around the corner. Luckily, one of Europe’s most Christmassy destinations is easily reached from the UK.
According to research from the expert travel team at Skyscanner, Berlin is one of this year’s most festive destinations.
The German capital takes Christmas seriously and over one hundred markets are held there every year. With that many markets to choose from, there’s one to suit every mood.
One of the city’s most popular markets takes place at the Red Town Hall with Ferris wheel rides a highlight.
The market at Charlottenburg Palace feels like a fairytale. The gorgeous palace is bedecked with lights and decorations while tourists wander the stalls below.

There are also carousels for children and heated tents serving meals and roasted almonds. At Potsdamer Platz, the popular Winter World takes centre stage.
Take on the 12m high toboggan ride or try your hand at curling before hitting the ice rink for an atmospheric skate under the lights.
The Spandau Old Market is perhaps the prettiest market in the city and is set among the city’s old town streets, offering a glimpse of what German markets used to be like.

Of course, food is an essential part of any Christmas Market visit and stalls serve stollen, pretzels, chocolate fruit and apple strudel.
If it’s savoury on the menu, go for a traditional currywurst or try kartoffelpuffer, a delicious potato pancake often served with apple sauce.
Berlin has a huge range of attractions to explore around the Christmas markets and make sure to check out the East Side Gallery and Brandenburg Gate.
Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s Destinations & Trends Expert said: “The festive season is such a lovely time to get away, whether you want to get into the Christmas spirit or are on a much-needed sun-seeking mission, there are loads of great places to choose from.
“If wandering around a market with a mulled wine in hand sounds more like your kind of festive cheer then look no further than Germany which has the most quintessential Christmas markets around.”
