You've landed at Hurghada Airport, collected your bags and walked out into the warm night air. Now the real question: how do you get to your hotel? Taxi drivers will offer you a ride before you reach the door, your phone shows Uber, your tour operator may have a bus waiting – and you may already have booked a private driver.

I work in the tourism industry on the Red Sea and our companies arrange airport transfers here, so I see every version of this arrival: the smooth ones and the ones that start with a 30-minute argument about the fare. This guide compares the four ways to get from Hurghada Airport (HRG) to your hotel, with real 2026 prices, so you can choose what suits your group.

Disclosure: my own company runs a private transfer service in Hurghada, and it is included in the comparison below. I've tried to be fair to every option – the right choice really does depend on your group and budget.

Before you leave the airport

Most international flights use Terminal 1. If you don't have an e-visa, you'll buy a visa on arrival before passport control: since 1 March 2026 it costs 30 US dollars, while the e-visa bought online in advance is still 25 dollars. Have small notes ready – in dollars or euros – for the visa, a tip and possibly the taxi.

Once you're through customs, you'll reach the public arrivals area, where drivers wait with name signs and taxi drivers approach new arrivals.

1. Street taxi

Taxis wait outside arrivals and their drivers will usually find you first. There is no meter and no fixed airport tariff for street taxis, so everything depends on negotiation.

How to do it well:

  • Agree the full price before you put your bags in the car – including luggage, the exact hotel and the currency (Egyptian pounds, euros or dollars).
  • Know roughly what the trip should cost. One 2026 price comparison estimated a street taxi from the airport to Hurghada Marina at 300 Egyptian pounds or more, against about 150 pounds by Uber.
  • Have small notes; drivers often say they have no change.

Taxis are fine for one or two people going into central Hurghada with light luggage. For families, long drives to Makadi, Soma Bay or El Gouna, or a 2am arrival after a long flight, the negotiation is the last thing you want. Read our tips on avoiding overpaying for taxis on holiday.

2. Uber and Careem

Both apps work in Hurghada, and Uber publishes pickup information for Hurghada Airport. They are usually the cheapest option for a ride into town, and the price is fixed in the app – one 2026 price test of Uber, Careem and taxis in Hurghada found Uber roughly 10–15% cheaper than Careem on the same routes.

The downsides show up at the airport: travelers report drivers cancelling after accepting, or asking passengers to walk with their luggage to a gate or nearby road. The car that turns up is often a small saloon that won't take a family's suitcases and a pushchair. Apps work best for trips around Hurghada once you've settled in, rather than for the arrival itself.

3. Shared shuttle

If you booked a package holiday, a shared transfer coach is usually included. It's the cheapest option if it's part of your package, but expect to wait for passengers from other flights and to stop at several hotels on the way – a 20-minute drive can easily take more than an hour, especially for the hotels at the end of the route.

4. Private transfer

A private transfer is booked in advance: a driver meets you in arrivals with your name on a sign, takes you straight to your hotel and follows your flight, so a delay doesn't leave you stranded. The price is per vehicle, not per person, which is why it often works out cheaper than taxis for families and groups.

Typical 2026 prices from Hurghada Airport, one way, per vehicle, from one local provider (Hurghada-Transfer.com):

DestinationDrive timeCarSUV (up to 4)Minibus (groups)
Hurghada town hotels15–35 min€14€18€27
Sahl Hasheesh30–40 min€18€23€32
Makadi Bay35–45 min€20€26€35
El Gouna35–45 min€20€26€35
Soma Bay50–65 min€27€36€50
Safaga60–75 min€32€41€59
El Quseir2h15–2h45€71€87€119
Marsa Alam3h30–4h15€99€119€159

What to check before you book any private transfer:

  • Is the price per vehicle, and does it include the whole trip with no extras on arrival?
  • Can you pay by card, or part online and part in cash to the driver?
  • Is there free cancellation, and what happens if your flight is late?
  • Are child seats available, and do you need to request them?
  • Does the vehicle fit your luggage, pushchair or diving and kitesurfing gear?

Which option should you choose?

  • Solo, light luggage, going into town: Uber or a negotiated taxi.
  • Package holiday on a budget: the included shuttle.
  • Family with children, or a group: a private transfer – one price for the whole vehicle, child seats and no haggling.
  • Late-night arrival: a private transfer, so someone is waiting for you.
  • Long drives to Soma Bay, Safaga, El Quseir or Marsa Alam: a private transfer; taxi negotiations get harder the further you go.

Where you stay changes everything – from ten minutes to central Hurghada to around an hour to Soma Bay. El Gouna lies north of the airport, while Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and Soma Bay are to the south. Our guide to where to stay in Hurghada compares the areas, and the Makadi Bay guide covers one of the most popular family bays.

Going to Marsa Alam?

If your hotel is in Marsa Alam, the drive from Hurghada Airport takes about three and a half to over four hours. Check whether there are flights to Marsa Alam Airport, which is much closer to most hotels on that coast. If you do fly into Hurghada, a private transfer with a rest stop is the most comfortable way to cover the distance – see our Marsa Alam travel guide.

Your return to the airport

For your flight home, plan to arrive at Hurghada Airport about three hours before an international departure, and allow more from the southern bays. Many hotels can arrange a taxi, but booking your return with your arrival transfer is usually simplest – the pickup time is planned around your flight.
