One Reddit user shared a nightmare cruise holiday experience. Other cruise passengers said it was a “new fear” for them.
Reddit user, ‘thatwoman9’ said: “About 10 years ago, my husband and I went on a cruise.
“On the flight to the port, the airline lost our luggage. So we did the whole cruise without any luggage at all.
“The cruise line let us dig through the lost and found for clothes to wear, but my husband couldn’t find any dress trousers to fit him, so we never went to any of the nicer restaurants.
“Looking back on pictures from that cruise, we look hilarious wearing all sorts of things we could normally never wear.”
While the cruise line is likely to do everything it can to help in the case of lost luggage, sometimes there’s just not much it can do.
Larger ships will probably have plenty of lost and found items, but passengers on smaller boats might have more issues.
The shops onboard the cruise boats can be pricey and sometimes the choice can be very limited.
The passenger added: “Then six months later, the airline found and delivered our luggage to our house at 3am in the middle of the night.
“Ever since then, I’ve always packed a carry-on suitcase that has all the most important things in it.”
Reddit user, ‘AnnoyingKarenlol’ replied: “You have just now unlocked a new fear of mine.”
Another cruise passenger said they’d also had a nightmare holiday experience with lost luggage.
They said: “A cruise I went on a few months ago saw the bags of everyone I boarded with make it to the rooms with no issues by 2pm, except mine.
“I’m a crazy person and I always have a bathing suit and throw in my bag and I was dressed nice enough that I wasn’t sweating it yet, but it was definitely in the back of my brain for the rest of the day and evening.
“When we made it back to the room that night my bag was there but I always thought it was strange that only mine showed up so late.
“Same cruise there were a few people that had prosthetics (limbs). One of them apparently had once for each leg and had boarded without them attached.
“We heard announcements for three days asking if anyone had luggage that wasn’t theirs and to please bring it forward as it contained prosthetics.
“As far as I know when the announcements stopped he got his luggage back.”
While it’s very unlikely that luggage will get lost on a cruise, passengers could bring anything essential in a carry-on to avoid a nightmare.
On a large ship, luggage can be delivered late afternoon on the first day so it’s a good idea to have the most important items to hand.
In the case of large and essential items such as prosthetics, passengers could ask their cruise line to take special care.
