AmaWaterways is expanding its Black heritage river cruise program in 2024 with a new itinerary in Portugal.  

Portugal will be the third destination in the Soulful Experience river cruise series, a program that offers itineraries focused on exploring the local Black history and cultures of the destination and regions visited during the cruise. 

The 10-day Enticing Douro Soulful Experience will be another land-cruise itinerary, kicking off with a three-night land package in Lisbon before embarking the AmaDouro for a seven-night cruise on the Douro. 

This itinerary will focus on the Black and African in Lisbon and along the Douro River, while incorporating aspects of the line’s existing itineraries on the Douro that focus on food and wine. 

This latest addition to the Soulful Experience, which was renamed from the original Soulful Epicurean Experience in order to expand on the line’s offerings, comes after the success of the inaugural Soulful cruise that set sail in the south of France on the Rhone River in August. 

There is continued demand for this cultural river cruise experience as departure dates continue to sell out. 

“Our first Soulful Experience cruise in France in August 2023 sold out almost immediately, and we are deeply touched by the amazing feedback from our guests and travel partners as well as demand for new sailings in 2024,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-founder of AmaWaterways.

The Enticing Douro Soulful Experience itinerary, which sails roundtrip from Porto, departs on Nov. 13.

Soulful Experience itineraries are offered in France, Egypt and Portugal.
