New land at Universal Orlando will have DreamWorks Animation theme

Universal Orlando Resort will open a new land themed to DreamWorks Animation characters next year.

The land will be located in Universal Studios Florida. Universal did not specify an opening date but did say the land would welcome guests in 2024.

“As guests step into this new land, their imaginations will run wild as they take in the vibrant colors, sights and sounds that surround them,” Universal said in a release. “They will share special moments with their favorite characters like Gabby from “Gabby’s Dollhouse” and explore themed, interactive play spaces and attractions that bring popular franchises like “Shrek,” “Trolls” and “Kung Fu Panda” to life in the most imaginatively fun ways.”

Last November, Universal announced the January closure of Fievel’s Playland, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, DreamWorks Destination and Shrek and Donkey’s Meet & Greet. The new DreamWorks land will replace those attractions.

This marks the latest in a number of announcements from Universal, which is in the midst of construction of a third theme park in Orlando, Epic Universe, which is slated to open in 2025.

Universal last week revealed it is planning a Fast & Furious-themed roller coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood and also released new details about Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, a new attraction coming to Florida this summer.

Additionally, Universal is planning a theme park for families with young children in Texas and a horror-themed experience in Las Vegas.
