Woman uses ‘smart’ jumper hack to get better sleep on economy flights

A frequent flyer has gone viral thanks to her hack for getting comfortable sleep while travelling in economy seats.

She uses just a jumper and what she has on the flight to create a stable space to sleep.

It’s a welcome trick for many holidaymakers who shift and grumble during their journey trying to catch 40 winks.

You might be able to doze on a short-haul journey, but when it comes to proper sleep on a long-haul it can be near impossible to get any.

Business class guests will be able to lie back and catch some sleep in the luxury lie-flat beds.

But, back in economy we’re tied up in knots trying to sleep in the tiny little seats.

Luckily, Jiny Maeng, @jinymaeng, has offered her solution – and it’s racked up over 924,000 likes!

In the video, the young woman explained: "Here is how to sleep comfortably on a plane when you’re sitting next to someone you know. It took me years to figure these out, but for this hack you’ll be using an arm rest and, of course, a jacket or a blanket.”

Jiny added: "After you fold up your jacket, or your blanket, you want to place it on top of the tip of the arm rest.

"Then rest the side of your head onto it.

"You can move it around a bit to find a comfortable spot and the best thing about this hack is that both sides can use the headrest together.

"And, it doesn’t matter if you have an aisle seat or a window seat it works everywhere."

The young woman noted that she also likes to wear a hoodie and pull the hood up while she sleeps to keep her "head clean and warm".

In the comments, holidaymakers praised the clever trick, labelling it as "so smart" and "perfect", especially for long-haul flights.

One person added: "I've been doing this for years and it's so much better than sleeping on the food tray".

"This would've been helpful about 2 days ago," lamented one holidaymaker who must not have had the most comfortable of flights.

Some commenters asked if the arm rest wouldn’t fall down, but most airlines have fairly firm rests that should hold up while you sleep.

This isn’t the only way people have managed to get some sleep while flying in economy.

A mum discovered that those flying from New Zealand to the UK or back can opt for a SkyCouch.

The option allows families to turn economy seats into flat beds for around £100.

The convertible seats are a lifesaver for parents on long-haul flights.
