With new travel restrictions expected to be revealed this week, will Croatia be moved from the green list to the amber list? What countries will be on the green list?

Since May, the green, amber and red lists have been updated every three weeks. A further update is expected to come this week, but what does this mean for travellers?

Can Brits travel to Croatia?

Croatia is currently on the ‘green watchlist’. This means that although it has all the freedoms of being a green list country, it is at risk of being moved to the amber list.

At the moment, all Brits – regardless of their vaccination status – arriving in Croatia need to bring proof of a negative Covid test taken within the last 72 hours.

Because Croatia is currently on the green list, you do not need to quarantine after returning from Croatia. You will need to take a Covid test on day two after returning to the UK.

Make sure you check the full list of entry requirements on the GOV.UK site, and if there’s anything you’re unsure of, check with your airline who will be best placed to advise you.

Will Croatia move to the amber list?

Data from PC agency suggests that Croatia, as well as popular holiday spot Madeira, could be downgraded to the amber list this week.

If Croatia moves to the amber list, unvaccinated Brits (including those who have only had their first jab) will have to quarantine for 10 days on their return to the UK. They will also have to take a PCR test before returning to the UK.

Vaccinated Brits will not have to quarantine after returning from amber list countries, but they must take a PCR test.

What are Croatia’s Covid rules?

Wearing face masks on public transport, in taxis and in shops is mandatory in Croatia.

There are no coronavirus restrictions for travelling around within Croatia.

If you are travelling in Croatia and begin to experience coronavirus symptoms, you should call the national Covid helpline on 113.

What other countries are on the green watch list?

The green list countries announcement is expected this week from UK transport secretary Grant Shapps.

Countries on the green list or green watch list with rising Covid infections could be moved to the amber list, while those on the amber list that are thought to be lower risk could be moved to green.

At the moment, countries on the green watch list include:

Barbados
Bermuda
Cayman Islands
Croatia
Dominica
Grenada
Israel
Madeira
Montserrat
Taiwan
Turks and Caicos Islands

When will the UK amber list of countries be updated?

With the August bank holiday fast approaching, changes to the travel lists at this point could cause chaos for those with holidays booked.

Predictions on travel list changes are based on Covid infection rates and vaccination rates.

Meanwhile, some countries are expected to turn green due to their declining Covid rates. The countries expected to turn green include Poland, Bhutan, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Saudi Arabia and Canada.
