easyJet was among the big-name holiday providers forced to axe and amend itineraries amid the ongoing coronavirus travel restrictions. As part of their coronavirus policy, the airline offered impacted customers a voucher for future travel.

The vouchers, worth the equivalent of the amount paid for a holiday, were due to expire on June 30, 2021.

However, as uncertainty around international travel continues, the airline has further extended the period in which the vouchers must be used by.

Speaking on his ITV Money Show, Martin Lewis revealed customers can now benefit from an additional six month to rearrange holiday plans.

He explained: “If you’ve got one of easyJet’s coronavirus refund vouchers and that expires before June 30 2021, it was a one year voucher, it will automatically be extended by six months.”

However, he pointed out this does not necessarily mean holidaymakers have to jet off by the end of 2021.

“The deadline, by the way. is for when you need to book, not when you need to travel,” he explained.

“So you can book by then and still travel at a later date.”

Customers can rebook for any flights currently on sale by easyJet, no matter how far in the future they are.

Currently, easyJet is selling flights right up until September 2022.

Passengers do not need to contact the airline to benefit from the voucher extension.

easyJet says it is currently in the process of contacting all impacted customers directly to discuss the options available to them.

However, there are some terms and conditions for using the voucher which remain unchanged.

According to the easyJet website: “If the new booking is greater than the voucher value, the difference must be paid by card.

“If the new booking is lower than the voucher value, the remaining value is stored and can be used on future bookings within the expiry date.”

It also warns: “Some booking types might not be eligible for a voucher and therefore a refund may be issued instead.”

Customers who made their flight or holiday booking via a tour operator, travel agent or online travel agent are advised to contact them directly.

While the exact date overseas travel may resume has not yet been confirmed, hopes remain on May 17.

Should Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown move forward as planned, some international leisure travel may resume from this date.

easyJet has continued to operate flights throughout the pandemic, though they are subject to changes.

Meanwhile, the airline’s package holiday arm easyJet holidays has cancelled all bookings up to and including May 16, 2021.
