Bottom line
Ever since American Express updated its Hilton credit card lineup to include new features and earning rates, the family of cards has come with welcome bonuses that have ranged from 50,000 to 150,000 Hilton Honors points. These bonuses are not run-of-the-mill Hilton welcome bonuses, they represent a very real increase over the normal range of offers. And in fact, they are the highest point totals we’ve seen for these cards.

The 130,000 or 180,000 bonus points are enough to get you started on some amazing Hilton redemptions, including luxury stays at resorts such as the Conrad Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa. For a more budget-friendly redemption closer to home, there’s the refurbished Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles (I stayed at this property in 2020 for just 42,000 points per night).
You could also look ahead to next winter and book the Hilton DoubleTree in Highline Vail which runs about 80,000 points per night during the winter. Also, remember that you’ll get a fifth night free on reward stays.
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to apply for a Hilton credit card, now might be that time. Keep in mind that Amex has a “one per card per lifetime” policy for earning welcome bonuses, so you may want to double-check that you’re eligible to earn this elevated bonus before you hit the apply button. Thankfully, having had one type of Hilton Amex card doesn’t prevent you from getting a different one as your needs change and you may be ready to get back to traveling.
