Whether it’s the Mona Lisa in Paris’s Louvre or the best sunset selfie spot in Santorini, some tourist destinations are extremely crowded in summer.
According to research from holiday search engine, Holidu, the most crowded tourist destination is Dubrovnik in Croatia.
While some European destinations get a higher number of visitors, tourists outnumber residents the most in the historic Croatian city.
Top hotspots in Italy, Greece and Belgium also made the top five while no UK cities earnt a place on the list.
Overtourism can put pressure on local communities with residents forced to deal with traffic jams, excess noise and rising house prices.

Tourists outnumber local residents by 36 to one in Dubrovnik, during the peak holiday season of July and August.
The Croatian city is currently cracking down on rowdy tourists with a new ban on wheeled suitcases in the Old Town.
Tourists could also face fines of over £3,400 if they break the rules such as drinking new a protected area like a school.

Venice was Europe’s next most crowded city with 21 tourists to every local resident. The Italian hotspot is also trying to reduce visitor numbers with a ban on cruise ships and an upcoming charge for day visitors.
Bruges also has 21 tourists for every resident while Rhodes in Greece was equally as packed.
Reykjavik might not be everyone’s idea of a summer holiday but the Icelandic capital is one of Europe’s busiest with 16 tourists to every resident.
