The InterNations Expat Insider survey asked expats in 57 major cities around the world to rate their home on several important factors. The expats were asked how they felt about their everyday costs and the price of housing.
The cheapest city in the world for expats was also recently named the best city in the world for foreign residents.
Kuala Lumpur, the thriving capital city of Malaysia, was ranked as the cheapest city for expats.
More than 90 percent of expats living in Kuala Lumpur said it was easy to find housing in the city.
Over three quarters of foreign residents thought the housing in the Malaysian hotspot was affordable.
The second cheapest city in the world for British expats was Ho Chi Minh, in southern Vietnam.
The cosmopolitan city is an attractive destination for expats looking to save on property prices.
Over 60 percent of expats thought that housing was affordable in Ho Chi Minh while over three quarters said they had more than enough disposable income.
Overall, the Vietnamese city was ranked as the 6th best expat destination in the world with great food and entertainment options.
However, one expat said: “The environmental quality can be challenging, such as pollution, lack of recycling and noise.”
Ho Chi Minh is classed as a moderately polluted city and can be noisy as it has a population of around nine million people.
The largest city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh is diverse and multicultural with a rich coffee culture and delicious street food.
The third cheapest city in the world for British expats was the buzzing Thai capital city of Bangkok.
Bangkok is a top tourist destination with many Britons choosing to visit the city before a holiday on one of Thailand’s paradise islands.
Over 60 percent of expats thought that housing was cheap in the city while half of the expats found it easy to find.
One British expat said: “Whether you are buying or renting – it’s affordable.” Over 80 percent of expats in the city also thought their disposable income was enough.
The city was rated just outside the top ten best cities in the world, coming in 11th place in the InterNations index.
In fourth place was the Mexican capital, Mexico City. Rated the eighth best city in the world by expats, more than three quarters were satisfied with their financial position.
Housing was ranked as affordable and more than half of expats thought it was easy to find in the city.
Malaga was ranked as the cheapest city for expats in Europe where housing was easy to find and inexpensive.
