‘Breathtaking’ walk with ‘sweeping cliffs’ named the best for staycations

Is there any better way to spend a summer weekend than at the seaside? If the weather isn’t quite right for lying on the beach, Britons could attempt a pretty coastal walk instead.

The expert team at Fitflop have rounded up the UK’s most stunning coastal walks and the winning destination has “sweeping cliffs”.

According to the team, Abbostbury to Lulworth in Dorset is the country’s prettiest walk by the sea.

A team member said: “This stunning Dorset coastline showcases sweeping cliffs with the scenic Isle of Portland, a four mile long piece of land which is joined to the coast by Chesil Beach.

“Starting at Abbotsbury village, the path gives breathtaking views of the 18 mile spit of sand, past Fleet lagoon and towards Weymouth and Ferrybridge. From here to Lulworth is more taxing, but the views of Lulworth and Durdle Door are the highlight!”

One of the top sites on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, Lulworth Cove is world famous for its unique geology. Lucky tourists might even be able to find a fossil.

The Cove is just a short walk from Durdle Door, another of the region’s top sites, and another breathtaking landmark.

The second best walk was John O’Groats to Duncansby Head, a 4.3 mile stroll taking in some of Sctoland’s most unspoilt landscapes.

A spokesperson said: “The northernmost part of Scotland is wild and dramatic with some beautiful scenery of uninterrupted coastland, cliffs and windswept land.

“Starting at the harbour, take the shore path where you may see Eider ducks, seals or even ‘Groatie Buckies’, small shells which bring the finder good luck!”

Tourists might also be able to spot elusive otters on the walk and will ended their hike at Duncansby Head Lighthouse.
