Condé Nast Traveller UK has named the best places in Britain to travel this year. The list features the best regions, cities and countries to explore in 2023.

Inverness was one of three Scottish destinations to make this year’s list. The judging team said: “Think of the Scottish Highlands and the imagination grasps for craggy-faced mountains, empty moorlands, and rollercoasting glens, a landscape tailor-made for slow travel.
“But life here is moving at a fast pace and Inverness, and its surrounding matrix of lochs and wild lands, is gaining worldwide recognition for several thrilling reasons.”
Condé Nast Traveller UK highlighted the upcoming opening of the rewilding centre at Dundreggan Estate.
Tourists are also recommended to check out the new thermal imaging safaris from Connell Outdoor Pursuits.
Yorkshire was another top recommended tourist destination and its “rugged landscapes” offer plenty to tourists.
The team said: “Rugged landscapes and a history of industry and tough materials mix with literature and an ever-evolving art scene that has churned out countless greats – from David Hockney and Barbara Hepworth to renowned sculptor Henry Moore – to create a heady, boundary-pushing mix of man-made and natural beauty.”
Yorkshire was also celebrated for its burgeoning foodie scene with plenty of high-quality restaurants.
Leeds is set to be City of Culture next year and will host a year-long celebration of culture with creative experiences for locals and tourists.
Rather than just highlighting one region, the team recommended the whole of Wales as a fantastic destination.
They said: “Wales seems to be a hub for the UK’s thriving outdoor sauna scene” and highlighted the Heartwood Saunas in Snowdonia.
A new slow-travel route, The Wild Drovers’ Way, will offer tourists the chance to explore 180 miles of Welsh beauty the slow way.
Condé Nast Traveller UK also focused on Wales’s foodie scene, which is home to some innovative restaurants.
When it comes to seaside breaks, Eastbourne was named as the leading destination for Brits looking for a beach holiday.
The team said: “In the last few years, Eastbourne has brushed off its erstwhile sleepy image to emerge as the latest upcoming coastal hotspot to watch.”
Tourists can visit Towner Eastbourne, set to celebrate its centenary next year, with a special year of exhibitions.
This will include a summer Barbara Hepworth show and the Turner Prize in September, the first year the renowned award will be held in Sussex.
