Best autumn staycation destinations (Park Leisure)

  1. Highlands, Scotland
  2. Burnsall Bridge, Yorkshire Dales
  3. Snowdonia, Wales
  4. Anglesey, North Wales
  5. Trough of Bowland, Lancashire

The Scottish Highlands was ranked the best autumn staycation with one in three Britons choosing it as their favourite autumn spot.

A spokesperson from Park Leisure said: “It’s no surprise this incredible place came out on top.

“Situated in northern Scotland and covering almost 10,000 square metres the region is home to some breathtaking scenery, including the legendary Loch Ness.”

Autumn is the perfect time to spot some of the Scottish Highlands’ unique wildlife such as red squirrels.

Holidaymakers should also keep their eyes peeled for red deer in Glen Shiel, seal pups along the coastline and wildcats at Cairngorms National Park.

Autumn is also one of the best seasons for stargazing and tourists could even spot the Milky Way at Abriachan Community Forest.

The best-rated autumn staycation destination in England is Burnsall Bridge in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

A Park Leisure spokesperson said: “This picturesque riverside village is situated in Lower Wharfedale downstream of Grassington.

“The bridge itself dates back to Viking times, injecting some interesting history to a stunning walk.”

Snowdonia was Wales’ best rated autumn staycation destination and is the perfect spot for a bracing autumn walk.

The spokesperson said: “Nearly four million people visit Eryri every year to explore its towering peaks and breathtaking valleys and is the perfect place to experience the seasonal change.”

Anglesey in North Wales also made the list of top staycation spots and tourists will enjoy beautiful views of the unspoilt coastline.

A beautiful valley, The Trough of Bowland is located in the Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

At 295m at its highest point, the Trough marks the county boundary between Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Tony Clish, Commercial Director at Park Leisure, said: “The UK has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty and autumn is an ideal time to get out in nature and watch the seasons change in real time.

“Our parks are located close to many of these stunning landscapes so that visitors can make the most of the scenery then come back and enjoy a cosy holiday home.”
