Virgin Voyages has promoted Michelle Bentubo to serve as the line’s first chief operations officer.
In her new role, she will oversee the brand’s end-to-end operations, including service delivery, port functionality, marine and technology, customer service, digital platforms, change management and business transformation.
She also leads the cruise line’s Scarlet Squad, which is focused on recruiting, supporting and mentoring female talent across its operations and preparing them for leadership roles.
The line said the promotion makes Bentubo one of a small number of female leaders overseeing end-to-end functions in the cruise industry.
Bentubo, a founding member of the Virgin Voyages team in 2016, most recently served as senior vice president of service excellence, travel operations, crew training and experiences for the brand. She has also served as VP of technology and operations.
Previously, she held executive roles at Bank of America, Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line.
The promotion comes on the heels of a CEO change at the company. Tom McAlpin stepped down and was replaced by Nirmal Saverimuttu. McAlpin continues to serve as chairman.
