Cruise guest moans about ‘too small’ swimming pool which was ‘chaos’

Cruise holidays are usually trouble-free and can be a relaxing way to explore multiple destinations in one trip.

However, a cruise guest has taken to Reddit to complain about the size of the swimming pool on their ship.

They said: “The only thing I didn’t like was the pool situation. Too many people and the pools were way too small.

“People would occupy the pool chairs from morning by leaving their towels or other belongings there and not use them for half the day. There were rules against that but not strictly being enforced.”

‘Chair hogging’ is when tourists use towels to save their seats by the pool even if they don’t intend to return for hours.

Although the practice is usually banned on cruise lines, it may not be enforced and other passengers may end up annoyed.

The passenger added: “I didn’t get to swim even once. The adult only pool was packed anytime I went and the other pools looked like chaos with hundreds of kids.”

Cruise ship swimming pools are generally quite small as there isn’t a lot of space on the deck.

This means the pool could be very crowded on a cruise ship, particularly if there are thousands of guests onboard.

Guests might have more look if they choose to travel outside of peak season when the ships are quieter.

Some holidaymakers opt to stay on the ship when it’s at port so they can go for a swim while most of the guests are away

Some cruise lines have their own private islands where guests may find the swimming pool is more spacious.

Despite the issue with the swimming pool, the guest said they had a “great trip” and had planned another cruise.

If chair hogs are a problem, guests should contact a member of staff rather than deal with the issue themselves.
