Antara unveils new India river cruise itineraries: Travel Weekly

Antara Luxury River Cruises has new ships and new itineraries coming this fall, plus new products coming in 2023 and 2024.

The cruise line will offer three new itineraries on the Ganges River starting in September.

Secrets of the Sundarbans is a seven-night, roundtrip cruise from Kolkata with stops in fishing villages Namkhana and Do Banki. Guests take in scenic landscapes, cultural monuments and native wildlife in the area.

Guests can also expect a visit to Sundarbans National Park, one of the largest mangrove forests in the world, along with onboard educational sessions with naturalists.

Antara is also launching its Europe on the Ganges itinerary, which will explore European heritage sites along the river. Guests will see French and Danish monuments amongst historic Hindu temples such as the Hangseswari and Ananta Basudeb temple complexes, and sail from a French enclave to a Portuguese settlement to see the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shiya pilgrimage center.

Both itineraries will sail the 28-suite Ganges Voyager.

Travelers can also explore the traditions of festival season in India on the seven-night Artisans and Festivals sailing. The itinerary showcases India’s rich textile and craft community, with visits to weaving studios and villages and chances to participate in handloom weaving.

The Artisans and Festivals sailings will sail aboard the colonial art deco-style Antara Bengal Ganga. The 26-cabin ship features handmade furniture, along with local textiles and artwork.

Later this year, Antara will launch two small luxury ships to sail India’s waterways. Kalinga Vilas, featuring just two suites, will debut in November and will sail Antara’s three-night Amazon of the East itinerary. Nauka Vilas is a small wooden ship with just one presidential suite. It will sail the three-night Incredible Varanasi itinerary when it launches in December.
