Norway’s Sommerro hotel has debuted a new “urban wellness retreat” called Vestkantbadet, which it claims is now the largest city hotel wellness destination in the Nordic region.
Development of the 15,000-square-foot subterranean site involved a restoration and reimagining of a historic public bath venue, which dates to 1932.
The revamped art deco-inspired space incorporates the building’s original swimming pool, public bathing facilities, saunas and changing rooms, all of which have been fully restored.
The pool’s centerpiece, a mosaic wall created by famed Norwegian artist Per Krohg, has also received a refresh.
Vestkantbadet’s amenities include 18 treatment rooms, a gym, an infrared sauna and a cold plunge pool, as well as a rooftop extension that’s open year-round and comprises a heated rooftop pool, sunbeds and rooftop sauna.
Opened earlier this fall, Oslo’s 231-room Sommerro hotel is part of the Nordic Hotels & Resorts portfolio and a Preferred Hotels & Resorts member property.
