MGM Resorts International has received the green light to move forward with plans to develop a casino resort complex in Osaka, Japan.
According to MGM, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has officially approved the group’s proposal, which was submitted last year in partnership with the city of Osaka.
Plans for the $10 billion project, set to be located along the waterfront of Osaka’s man-made Yumeshima island, call for 2,500 guestrooms, a variety of dining and food and beverage offerings, retail space, a spa, a fitness center, meetings and event venues and a 3,500-seat theater.
In a statement, MGM said that the development “is designed to transform the region into one of the world’s top entertainment and hospitality destinations.”
