Expedia's One Key umbrella loyalty program goes live

Expedia Group has launched One Key, its new loyalty program that encompasses Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. Rewards can be applied across all of those brands.

It marks the first loyalty program for a “major online vacation rental platform,” Expedia said.

Expedia designed One Key to enable travelers to qualify for higher membership status quickly. Users start at the blue tier by signing up for free. Then, as they book trip elements, they move up. Users achieve silver status by booking five trip elements in one year; gold, 15; and platinum, 30.

A trip element includes an eligible flight, hotel room night, vacation rental night, cruise night, one-day car rental, one roundtrip ground transportation ticket or one activity ticket. To qualify, elements must be worth $25 or more.

For instance, a three-day car rental and two-night hotel stay would result in five trip elements.

One Key members have access to special prices, and higher tier levels result in deeper discounts and more perks.

One Key’s rewards currency is OneKeyCash, which is earned when traveling and can be applied to future bookings.

“We designed One Key to reward every traveler — the road warriors, the frequent flyers and the 83% of travelers who only take a few trips a year and never really benefit from other loyalty programs,” Expedia Brands president Jon Gieselman said in a release.

The program is live in the U.S., and other markets will follow starting next year.
