You can stay in desert camp with sand boarding, camel rides and safari from £24

Thousands of Brits visit Dubai in the United Arab Emirates each year – but there’s a hotspot nearby that’s slowly growing in popularity. Abu Dhabi – the capital of the nation – sits on an island off the mainland and has some incredibly cool attractions that may excite you.

Brits who want to experience the desert in all its natural glory away from the bright lights and hyper-modern cities can do so at a desert camp near Abu Dhabi for just £89 a night. Groups and couples can stay at the Desert Rose Bedouin camp and go sand boarding, ride camels and try traditional food and drinks.

The camp offers a luxury camping experience in the golden sand dunes between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain – the lush garden city. As a cultural experience, the desert camp is likely not something you’ve ever experienced before and there’s so much to do you’ll want to stay for several nights.

You can explore the landscape through "dune bashing"– that’s a form of off road driving in the sand – go sand boarding, ride camels and go on a desert safari in a 4×4. Plus, you’ll be able to wear Arabic clothing for photoshoots, enjoy watching the traditional Tanoura dance and belly dance and smoke a shisha pipe.

Holidaymakers will also enjoy getting henna – a plant dye that’s painted onto the skin in beautiful, intricate designs – will enjoy a bonfire and BBQ dinner, can sip on Arabic coffee and watch the sun rise over the sand dunes. You can also pay £11.22 per 10 minutes to use a quad bike out on the sand.

The incredible experience will include you sleeping in a luxury tent – which does include a full sized proper bed and a fan – and you’ll be picked up from the airport in Abu Dhabi for free. It’s recommended you spend at least one night at the desert camp to make the most of the many experiences on offer before dining on breakfast and being taken back to the city.

The incredible camp and included safari will only set you back £89 per adult (400AED) per night – and kids stay even cheaper for just £22 (100AED). So the amazing holiday won’t break the bank! On booking.com you can even bag a bargain as a standard twin room with a shared bathroom is priced from just £24 a night while rooms with a private bathroom start from £36.

Flights aren’t too costly either with Skyscanner showing flights from the UK to Abu Dhabi from £115 with Wizz Air. Groups and couples are able to stay at the camp, with couples also being able to enjoy a private sunset dinner.

For those who fancy staying in the UAE a little longer we'd recommend spending several nights back in Abu Dhabi where there are some fun experiences to be had.

The city is host to Ferrari World – an incredible indoor theme park located on Yas Island. It’s the world’s first Ferrari themed park and boasts the world’s fastest rollercoaster – the Formula Rossa which reaches a whopping 149mph.

There’s also Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi – a water park with a massive 45 rides, slides and attractions. It also offers shows which will thrill both kids and adults.

Also in Abu Dhabi is the Emirates Heritage Club Village which lets you see a reconstruction of a traditional desert village. It’s like an immersive capsule with an old style souk or market, a mosque and a camp based on the pre-modern UAE.

To book a night at the camp email [email protected] and include your name, contact details, the number of guests, the date you'd like to stay and your pick up location.
