The Government is facing increasing pressure from the travel sector to scrap quarantine for UK arrivals after Freedom Day put an end to most lockdown restrictions. From Monday (August 2) rules for those travelling to Britain from the US and EU will change.
On July 19 all Covid-19 safety measures, including the legal requirement to wear masks in public places, were removed in England.
But despite this easing, some restrictions around international travel remain.
Last week it was announced that from August 2 fully vaccinated travellers from the EU and US would no longer need to quarantine upon arrival in the UK.
This update to travel restrictions is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the struggling aviation and tourism industries.
Which travellers will no longer need to quarantine when they arrive in the UK?
From August 2 travellers from the EU or US who have had two doses Covid-19 vaccine will no longer need to isolate if they arrive in the UK from an amber list country.
Unvaccinated travellers or those who have only one dose will still be required to quarantine for 10 days.
This exemption for the fully vaccinated also applies to some European countries outside of the EU.
Travellers from Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco and Vatican City are also exempt.
Arrivals from France will still have to quarantine due to concerns over the surge of Beta variant cases in the country.
Even fully jabbed travellers arriving from France will have to quarantine for 10 days.
What are the rules for Britons returning from amber list countries?
From August 2 Britons who have had two doses of the vaccine won’t need to self-isolate when they return to the UK.
Current rules mean that those under 18 will not have to quarantine either.
Travellers will need to prove they have had their second jab at least 14 days before travel.
They can do this through the NHS Covid Pass app.
Alternatively, adults can request an NHS Covid Pass letter to show proof of vaccination.
