Top 10 UK seaside towns ranked from best to worst in terms of value for money

Torquay: Ariel views show seaside town in Devon

Summer may be drawing to a close – but with one more weekend to go before children go back to school, a new survey has revealed the English seaside town which offers staycationers the best value for money.

The national survey compared 10 resorts in accordance with a range of criteria, including the cost of fish and chips, drinks for parents and children, rail travel and family activities.

The research, undertaken by price comparison website This Girl Talks Money in conjunction with Govia Thameslink Railway, indicate that a trip to the seaside will not necessarily break the bank.

Hastings, on the south coast, will set a family of four back £67.55, making it the best value destination of those considered.

By constrast, Eastbourne, a few miles further down the coast, is almost twice as pricey, at £130.80.

This Girl Talks Money founder Ellie Austin-Williams, said: “As the end of school holidays nears, parents will not only be running out of ideas to entertain the kids, but quickly running out of money too.

“The good news is that there are some great free activities at seaside towns across the UK – like the Alice In Wonderland trail at Bognor Regis or the splash fountains at Southend-on-Sea.

“These sorts of activities paired with spending time on the beach can be a fun-filled family day out that doesn’t have to break the bank, especially when using travel deals like ‘Kids for £2’ available on the Southern or Thameslink services.”
