Due to an increasing depopulation, some small Spanish towns are now looking for ways to attract new residents. Some have launched interesting schemes that include economical incentives for those willing to relocate there.

Spain will soon be introducing a digital nomad visa and tax incentives for startups in order to attract workers and new businesses to move to the country.

30 towns across the Spanish region have joined the National Network of Welcoming Villages, designed to attract foreign remote workers.

These charming villages, despite being very small, are prepared to offer the necessary services for those willing to move there, including co-working spaces and high-speed internet.

But where could Britons relocate?

For those who love the south of Spain, the small town of Benarrabá, in Malaga is fervently looking for new residents.

With only 460 inhabitants, living in the town will cost you €392 per week.

Tolox is another tiny but picturesque village in Malaga with a population of 2,250.

Because of its location – it’s in the Sierra de las Nieves mountains as opposed to by the seaside – the cost of living is only €150 per week.

If you are trying to avoid the heat, the town of Kuartango, Basque Country, in the north of Spain, has a weekly cost of €310.

Located by Gorbeia Natural Park and with only 430 inhabitants, it is the perfect environment to work remotely and stress-free.

For those looking for a warm climate all year round, the town of Tejeda, in the Canary Islands, might be the best option.

With an average yearly temperature of 19 degrees, the cost of living is only €205 per person per week.

The little village is surrounded by mountains but is just one hour drive from the coast.

In the beautiful region of La Rioja, the charming town of San Vicente de La Sonsierra is looking for foreigners willing to move there.

It has a population of 1,030 and a cost of living of €205 per person.

Located in the north region of Aragon, picturesque Oliete is a tiny village near the vibrant city of Zaragoza.

With only 343 inhabitants, living in Oliete costs €314 per week, and new residents will get to enjoy a rich gastronomic and cultural scene.

However, there are other Spanish towns that go even further as they are willing to pay those who relocate to their region.

The town of Ponga, in Asturias, is giving families €3,000 (£2,600) to settle in and an additional €3,000 for each baby born in the town.

The regional council of Rubia, in Galicia, gives adds an extra €100-150 per month to new residents’ income.
