While the Duchess of Sussex often stayed in luxurious accommodation, many of her favourite destinations are surprisingly affordable. There are budget flights available for under £300 to one of her favourite holiday locations which she described as “breathtaking”.

Meghan visited Croatia and went on a stunning island hopping tour of the country’s Dalmatian Coast.

She wrote that the country was a “smorgasbord of buoyant beauty dotted in the Adriatic sea.”

Meghan even shared an itinerary for holidaymakers who want to experience the best of Croatia.

She said: “Starting in the medieval town of Dubrovnik, with its breathtaking cliffside architecture and rich history, and continuing through the islands of Korcula, Vis and finally Hvar gives you the perfect range of what the Dalmation Coast has to offer.”

The Duchess loved Croatia’s “spectacular wine country” and enjoyed some “freshly caught seafood”.

She also enthused about the country’s green spaces, craggy cliffs and the feeling of the sea lapping at your feet.

Dubrovnik has shot to fame since the fantasy series, Game of Thrones, used the stunning city as a location.

Tourists should make sure to walk the city’s wall and enjoy a seafood meal at one of its bistro style restaurants.

Hvar is one of Croatia’s most popular islands and is a great option for Britons who want to experience some of the country’s nightlife.

Meghan stayed at Villa Dubrovnik while she was in Dubrovnik which is a boutique hotel set on the city’s rocky cliffs.

She also stayed at a luxury hotel in Korcula and enjoyed a relaxing stay at the Adriana Hotel, a spa hotel in Hvar.

Carpe Diem is one of the island’s top clubbing destinations and tourists will need to catch a 10 minute boat from the Old Town to party at the exclusive beach club.

But while Meghan’s luxurious accommodation options may be out of range for some Britons, Croatia can be visited on a budget.

There are budget flights to Croatia available from most of the UK’s major airports, landing in Split or Dubrovnik.

If tourists opt to stay outside of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, they might be able to snap up a bargain.

The stunning coastal town of Zadar is also a cheaper option for tourists who want to save money on a holiday.

Croatia is set to join the euro area on January 1, 2023 but until then the country will continue to use Croatian Kuna.

The majority of foreign exchange stores offer Kuna to British tourists or travellers can order their money online.

It can be cheaper to use a currency card instead which won’t charge tourists fees to pay on card machines or withdraw money from an ATM.

Although temperatures do drop in Croatia during winter, the climate is far more mild than the UK in coastal areas.
