Caravanning and camping were extremely popular last summer, with some areas seeing booking up by 500 percent. Britons who missed out on a summer slot or who want to experience some of the best places in the UK during winter may be considering a caravan holiday during the colder months.

To help them plan their trip, Buymymotorhome has named the best caravanning sites in the UK.

The three best sites in the UK were chosen by looking at their proximity to attractions, things to do in the winter and the quality of the weather in the area.

Coming top was Canterbury Camping and Caravanning Club Site in Kent.

A short walk from Canterbury, the site had affordable pricing for Kent.

Top attractions in the area include Canterbury Cathedral and the King’s Mile.

On Tripadvisor, Moirg said the site was an “ideal base for visiting Kent”.

Natalie Drewery, Operations Director at Buymymotorhome, said: “Every caravanning site has something special that’d make it an excellent holiday choice, but the Canterbury Club Site is a worthy top choice.

“The combination of warmer South East England weather, high visitor reviews, and plenty to explore in the nearby UNESCO World Heritage city centre, makes Canterbury a fantastic place to take your motorhome this winter.”

In second place was the Cambridge Cherry Hinton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site.

About three miles from the centre of Cambridge, holidaymakers at the site can explore 400 attractions open through winter.

According to Tripadvisor, the best attraction in the area is the Cambridge Gin Laboratory.

AbGab said: “Had the best time at this original gin tasting experience. The shop itself is a little treasure in Cambridge but the staff are what makes it so special.

“We did the Taste It experience and would definitely go back to do the other classes.”

In third place was the Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site.

Brighton had the sunniest winter weather of all the campsites across the UK, and there were over 500 attractions open through winter in the city.

Kemptown was recently named one of the world’s coolest neighbourhood by TimeOut and is a highlight of any stay in or around Brighton.

Natalie of Buymymotorhome said: “Demand for holidaying in the UK has never been higher.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people out camping, caravanning, and rediscovering the beauty of the UK, but it also means securing a pitch for the summer is harder than ever before.

“A motorhome holiday in the winter months is one of the best ways to explore the UK. The campsites are a lot more quiet and tranquil – there’s something magical about parking up to views of peaceful fields of frost.

“A motorhome isn’t just for the sunnier months. There’s so much to visit and do across the UK during the winter, without the rush and expense of booking a top campsite for the peak summer season.”
