Compact, capsule shaped accommodations that are popular in Japan are now popping up in Sussex.
These pods, known as capsule hotels, are a popular option for people who want to stay overnight on a tighter budget than most conventional hotels allow for.
Pod Central in East Sussex has a total of 16 "rooms" stacked in pairs, and offers the tiny pods for £30 a night.
The hotel is located in Pevensey Road, which is close to the train station, cafes, restaurants and the beach.
It's also not far from tourist attractions in Hastings such as Hastings Pier, Hastings Castle, Hastings Old Town and Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion.
Each "pod" is equipped with clean bedding, a reading light and complementary earplugs. Plugs and USB ports, as well as free wifi, are provided. The bathroom facilities, which include showers, are shared – and towels are supplied.
The hotel complies with the UK government guidelines regarding Covid-19.
Pod Central’s managing director, Mia Preston, has lived in the area for more than 15 years.
The mum-of-five spoke to 2Chill, saying: "This is something new for the area, offering budget accommodation for young people, single parents, retired people – anyone looking for 'no frills' accommodation in a central location, whether for work, study or tourism.
"I came up with this fun idea when I was taking my son to explore universities round the country and it was difficult to find inexpensive accommodation."
Mia has worked in property renovation and management for several years. Prior to this, she ran a clinical aromatherapy business helping clients to unwind and de-stress. She studied engineering at university before deciding to train as a secondary school teacher.

Pod Central is an energy-saving development as the "pods" are low energy and underfloor heating brings down the running costs. Other eco-friendly measures include LED lighting, motion sensor lighting as well as eco-friendly toiletries and recycling bins.
Future plans include opening 20 more Pod Central developments in the next five years in key cities such as Liverpool, Bristol, Plymouth and Manchester, all located near stations.
