A flight attendant has roundly criticised the airline that employs her during a cheeky intercom rant that left passengers dismayed.

In footage that went viral recently, the woman – who has not been publicly identified – let holidaymakers onboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Dallas, Texas to Los Angeles, California, only to joke around with them about fictional fees that she may apply.

The speech was presumably made to mock budget airlines who charge for food, drinks, seat choice, extra legroom and any other options or extras.

"No, we do not have sockets for you to charge up your phones because if we did, we will charge you," she is heard telling the passengers.

"No, we do not have blankets for you because if we did, this is Spirit and we will charge you.

"No, your seats do not recline. If they did, again, this is Spirit and we will charge you."

Passengers quickly cottoned on and joined in. At one point she asks: "And no, we do not have earplugs for you because if we did, y’all know this is Spirit, and we will do what?"

One passenger enthusiastically responds: "Charge you!"

She replies: "Come on y’all, if we had them we would charge you and give you something else to complain about."

Having time on the intercom to flex their funny bones is one of the advantages of being a flight attendant who enjoys the limelight.

It's quite easy to switch off during the pre-flight announcements and assume you've heard it all before if you're a frequent flyer, so a cabin crew member who throws in some funny lines can help keep things fresh.

One flight attendant recently went viral after he left passengers in stitches with his own version of the safety instructions, which was captured and uploaded TikTok by @Sunyallflats_.

The member of cabin crew told travellers to store carry-on luggage all the way under the seat in front of them to ensure it doesn't become a safety hazard.

He then says: "Ladies, that does include your purses, pocketbooks, handbags, etcetera. All the way underneath.

"And that includes Gucci bags. We don't care if it's a Gucci bag, it still goes underneath the seat.

"Especially if it's a fake Gucci bag. What happened was, when we reach 5,000 feet, the Gs going to be falling off, the handle gonna be breaking, you gonna get to Philly with an Ucci bag.

"I'm just saying. Nevertheless, good morning and welcome aboard."

Spirit has been contacted for comment.
