Flight attendant explains why her long hair is always tied back on the plane

A flight attendant has demonstrated why long hair always has to be tied up neatly away from the face when cabin crew are working.

Kaylee, who works for the low-cost airline Swoop in Canada, says there is a practical reason for not having her hair hanging down as well as a more crucial safety aspect.

In a video she shared on her TikTok channel, Kaylee @flyingkaylee says: "There is a safety reason. We have something onboard called smoke hoods.

"So, in case there is a fire onboard that we need to fight, we have something we can put on so we can still be breathing oxygen and not smoke as we are fighting the fire."

Kaylee says the smoke hoods create a "tight seal around your neck" which would not be possible if long hair was getting in the way.

The flight attendant then says tied up hair is part of the cabin crew uniform and looks professional, pointing out that if she bent over to talk to a passenger her hair would fall over her face.

"If my hair is over my face and getting in the way, that doesn't look so good so it's also a presentation thing as well," she says.

One person commented: "Great video Kaylee have a great day!"

Someone else seemed to like her long hair worn down and wrote: "Looks good to me but safety has to come first."

A third user joked: "You wouldn't have this problem with the pixie cut Kaylee."

This comes after another flight attendant shared their "secret code" for picking up passengers they have a crush on.

She said she used the code to successfully get the number of a bloke she fancied and told people to be "nice and courteous" if they want to flirt with cabin crew.
