A country blanketed in sun-drenched plains and winding rivers has been named the ultimate destination for travelers wanting to veer off Europe’s beaten track.
Optimal grape-growing conditions in Moldova have put the nation among the top contenders on Europe’s wine scene in recent decades.
For a country so small, many visitors are surprised to find the Eastern European country also harbors an expanse of rich scenery and the largest wine cellar in the world.
Traveller Aileen Adalid reminds travelers that France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, and Germany are the five countries in Europe that receive the most travelers every year.
This may seem unsurprising, but it comes with several downsides, including that they are outstandingly overcrowded at the best of times.

As crowds grow year on year, Adalid highlighted several other destinations on her blog that are overlooked for their beauty and attract fewer visitors.
This is where she discussed the attributes of Moldova, which is currently listed as the world’s second least visited and Europe’s least visited country.
“One would wonder why Moldaoca isn’t a hit with the tourists,” the blogger pointed out, and there is one poignant reason for this; its remote location.
Nestled between Ukraine and Romania, Moldova’s lack of accessibility has long been a deterrent for travelers but is one of the main reasons it’s managed to retain its unparalleled beauty.
“It’s still struggling after it gained its independence from the disassembly of the Soviet Union in the 90s (the country’s tourism efforts haven’t taken off that much),” noted Adalid.

She continued: “But if you’re a traveler who wants to explore an unspoiled ‘off the beaten path’ destination, Moldova is the place for you!
“Though the cities aren’t much of a hit, they have great vineyards and wineries here, so it’s a haven for winos too.”
The country has a rich tradition of wine-making spanning thousands of years and claims the giant winery of Milestii Mici.
Many of the country’s wines have come to rival those of other wine-making regions across the continent, making it a year-round hot stop for wine lovers.
However, according to Guidester: “The seasonal shifts in Moldova are beautiful, particularly in autumn when the colors change.”
