Holidays overseas have been off the cards for several months due to the pandemic. With the ban on international travel lifting on May 17, Express.co.uk is asking readers how they feel about travelling abroad with the poll below.

As England goes into the next phase of Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown, a traffic light system was drawn up to categorise countries based on their COVID-19 risk levels.

It consists of a ‘green list’, an ‘amber list’ and a ‘red list’.

What do these mean?

Travellers returning from a ‘green list’ country means that they will not have to quarantine on return and will only be required to take one coronavirus test post-arrival.

The list includes countries like Portugal, Gibraltar, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

It comes after Gibraltar became the first territory in the world to vaccinate its entire population.

The 32,000 residents are fully vaccinated, seeing the country welcome back tourists from May 17.

The ‘green list’ means that holidaymakers can jet off to tourist hotspots once again without having to worry about the requirement to quarantine on return.

However, popular airlines including Jet2 have said they will not be restarting flights until June 24.

TUI and easyJet however, have both set out plans to resume from May 17, and Ryanair has even made the decision to add an additional 175,000 seats on flights to Portugal throughout the summer.

Express.co.uk is asking readers about their thoughts on travelling abroad this summer.

The ‘amber list’ includes some of the most popular UK tourist destinations such as Greece, Spain, Italy and France.

Transport secretary Grant Shapps recently said that people “should not be travelling to these places right now”.

It comes after tourist hotspots are still recording high levels of coronavirus cases.

Those who go against the guidance must take two-post arrival tests and are required to self-isolate at home for 10 days on return.

If travellers have an additional negative test on day five of isolating, the quarantine time can be reduced.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) regularly updates its travel advice.

With some of the most popular tourist destinations on the amber list, the FCDO advises against all but essential travel to places like France.

According to the FCDO: “Arrivals from the UK do not need to justify an essential reason to enter France. This applies to all air, car, ferry and train passengers.

“The French government strongly advises limiting international travel to a minimum.

“Arrivals from the UK will need to complete a ‘sworn statement’ form self-certifying they are not suffering from symptoms associated with coronavirus and have not been in contact with confirmed cases in the preceding fortnight.”

Those travelling to a ‘red list’ country will be required to stay in a quarantine hotel for 11 nights on their return.

It comes at a huge cost of £1,750 and two COVID-19 tests will be required.

Countries on the list include Brazil, India, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
