Jimmy Doherty has had “a mad old summer”. On the phone with Express.co.uk from a tiny country lane, Jimmy spoke of his new show, his brand new campervan, his bike “my pride and joy” and of course, the summer holidays.
Jimmy said: “This summer, we went to Wales, which was great. We had a week there, which is lovely.
“And then we basically stayed in the garden. The kids did loads of adventures with their friends around.”
The family also “had other little trips”.
“Me and my wife we went down to Bath, stayed in a hotel there.
“I took the kids to Brighton and we stayed for a long weekend, Pride weekend. That was good and the kids loved the pier and fish and chips and all that kind of stuff.
“We had a proper traditional British holiday.”

A “proper traditional British holiday” was something many Britons experienced this summer.
Staycations were on the rise and many chose to stay in the country, foregoing a trip abroad.
Jimmy said: “They’ll always be the want to get away to a warm destination, but I think what there has been is a reconnection with our own beautiful isles.
“When you see people jumping into beautiful clear water in Ireland or off the coast of Scotland…
“I was just in Scotland last week and the weather was beautiful and driving along just thinking ‘look at this place, incredible’.”
Jimmy believed TV shows may have helped Britons realising the holidaying potential in the UK.
Seeing beautiful filming locations, as well as TV shows that take Britons on British adventures have helped with the realisation the UK is a fantastic holidaying destination.
Jimmy’s new show “went everywhere” he said.
“We went up to sort of the Peak District we went down to Sussex, all over. And that’s mainly the trips on the joy rides.”
The “joy rides” saw the two Jimmys travel around in search of the most amazing campervans, driving through the beautiful British landscape and exploring the country “on mini adventures”.
The show also includes Jimmy’s build, of course, as well as following Britons who took on the challenge of turning various vehicles into their ideal campervans.
Jimmy’s brand new campervan is a great addition to his family’s holidaying options.
He said: “It is great because I’ve got four kids, and to be able to go ‘come on kids, jump in’.
“We might only go up the road to a neighbouring farm and park up somewhere with a view as a night away, or it could that friends come over and we have a BBQ in the back of it, or we take it up the coast.
“It allows us to have those unique little trips away that you can do at a drop of a hat, as opposed to booking something and thinking ‘have you got that sorted’… this is just about jumping in, turning the keys and going off.”
The new series Jimmy Doherty’s Dream Builds on Wheels premieres on Quest on September 28 and will be available to stream on discovery+.
