Best beach in England is a ‘piece of heaven’ with ‘Caribbean-blue waters’

Channel 4 series Britain by Beach explores the secret history of Britain’s beaches with Anita Rani, who travels across the country looking for hidden gems and their remarkable history. In Cornwall, which has 420 miles of glorious coastline, Porthcurno Beach is one of the most popular spots among locals and tourists.

Cornwall has not only “stunning coastline and secluded beaches with a feeling of isolation,” as Anita explained, but also hidden spots with lots of history.

In the series, Anita commented that with “soft white sand and turquoise water”, Porthcurno Beach is a “piece of heaven”.

But the popular spot also played a crucial role in Britain’s communications with the rest of the world as ”placing the telegraph cable under the sea connected Britain and India for the first time,” she explained.

Beneath Porthcurno Beach, in Cornwall, there is “something which has played a key role in communications dating as far back as the 1800s”.

“Incredibly, a 5,000-mile cable was laid underneath the beach at Porthcurno that could transmit between Britain and India.

”Whereas messages had previously taken six weeks to arrive, the innovative cable – a jaw-dropping feat of engineering – cut that to just nine minutes. It’s amazing stuff,” the series explained.

“Are we in the Caribbean? I mean it’s absolutely stunning,” Anita said while visiting the breathtaking spot.

In fact, Porthcurno Beach is considered one of the best beaches in the UK and the most beautiful in Cornwall, according to a recent study by Sykescottages.

Recent research by the travel site named Porthcurno Beach “the best Cornwall beach that you must visit”.

The travel experts explained that Porthcurno Beach, in West Cornwall, “with its Caribbean-blue waters and curve of golden sand that stretches for miles”, is one of the best beaches in both Cornwall and England.

The beach is highly popular with families, “there are lifeguards on duty over the summer months with a designated safe swimming zone and high cliffs on either side of the beach providing shelter from the wind. There is also a stream at the top of the beach, which forms a natural paddling pool for children”.

“Don’t leave this Cornwall beach without catching a show at the jaw-droppingly beautiful and open-air Minack Theatre. Find the Minack Theatre standing high on the cliffs above the beach, producing an even more dramatic, natural setting,” the travel gurus suggested.
