It’s the first airline in the world to have all of its pilots and cabin crew members vaccinated and was “one of the first employers in the capital to secure places for their frontline staff” in Abu Dhabi’s vaccination plan, according to Etihad.

“We proactively made the vaccine available to all our employees to not only help combat the effects of COVID-19, but to make travelers feel confident and reassured the next time they fly with us,” Tony Douglas, CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, said in a statement on the news release.

Etihad’s “Protected Together” vaccination campaign began last month to encourage its workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Etihad Airway’s medical center has also received accreditation as a COVID-19 vaccine clinic, and the airline has been offering its employees and family members vaccination appointments since December 2020.

The “Protected Together” campaign further secured mobile vaccination clinics for Etihad’s employees to receive the vaccine while at work, among other health-related initiatives.

Now, over 75% of its employees have received at least one vaccine jab.

The airline’s anti-COVID-19 efforts didn’t just start with its vaccination protocols. In August 2020, Etihad Airways started giving its first and business class passengers reusable antimicrobial face masks. COVID-19 PCR testing is also mandatory for all Etihad passengers and crew members.

Singapore Airlines had similar aspirations to be the first airline to vaccinate all of its crew members, CNN reported in January.
