A hospitality firm led by restaurateur Robert Thompson has purchased the Whitney Hotel in New Orleans, in partnership with real estate firm GBX Group.
The Whitney Hotel is a 93-key property with 24 suites in a building in the city’s Central Business District that
was constructed in 1910 as a bank and is now a National
Historic Landmark.
“We’re going to bring new energy to this
legendary property, reimagining experiences,” Thompson said in a
statement. “This means opening the first on-site restaurant in the
property’s history — a vegetable-forward, southern restaurant — as well
as a thoughtful cocktail bar that transitions from afternoon happy hour
to late-night last calls and an aroma-filled, fresh flower boutique.”

Thompson opened his first restaurant in Nashville in 1997. He moved to New Orleans in 2021 and launched boutique hospitality company Angevin & Co.; last June, the company acquired its first property, the Frenchmen Hotel. The property is scheduled to open in February in New Orleans’ Marigny neighborhood, adjacent to the French Quarter.
Angevin & Co. is working with FAM Design on renovations and updates to the Whitney that will “preserve the historic integrity of the building,” and the hotel is expected to reopen to guests in the first quarter of 2023, according to the statement.
Angevin & Co. also operates the restaurant and bar Three Saints Revival in Denver.
