American Airlines has confirmed that it plans to resume service from Miami to five destinations in Cuba in early November.

The destinations are Holguin, Santa Clara, Santiago, Varadero and Camaguey.

Service to Santa Clara will operate twice daily while the other destinations will have year-round daily service, complementing the carrier’s current six daily flights to Havana.

“These additional frequencies will enhance service and access between the U.S. and other cities outside of Havana, as well as offer the best connectivity to Cuba via American’s Miami hub,” the carrier said in a statement.

On June 1, the U.S. Department of Transportation lifted the flight restrictions imposed during the Trump administration in 2019, making it easier for Americans to travel to Cuba.

That move followed the May 16 announcement by the Biden administration that it would expand authorized travel to Cuba, including service to more Cuban cities and reinstating group people-to-people travel.

Currently, American Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest are the only three carriers operating flights to Havana. There are 91 weekly services between the U.S. and Cuba, 13 flights per day.  American flies from Miami, Southwest from Tampa and Orlando and JetBlue from New York JFK and Fort Lauderdale.
