American Symphony river ship christened in Mississippi: Travel Weekly

American Cruise Lines has christened its newest river ship to sail the Mississippi River.

The American Symphony was formally named in an Aug. 31 ceremony in Natchez, Mississippi. Godmother Asya Branch, Miss USA 2020 and Miss Mississippi 2018, presided over the blessing.

The ship is in the middle of its first cruise, which departed New Orleans on Aug. 27 and will conclude in Memphis on Sept. 3.

The American Symphony is American Cruise Line’s fifth in its Modern Series of riverboats (the ships have no paddlewheel). The American Symphony will be followed in early 2023 by another modern riverboat, American Serenade.

Accommodating 175 guests in staterooms and suites with private balconies, the American Symphony has five decks, with the top deck featuring a skywalk with an ellipse skylight that cantilevers over the 4th deck café below. American Symphony also has indoor and outdoor lounges, a grand dining room, a fitness center and a wellness-yoga studio.

For the rest of the year, the American Symphony will sail a variety of Mississippi River cruises, including holiday cruises in December.
