More Hotels Are Coming to Cuba, Including the First LGBTQ Hotel

Cuba’s hotel industry is booming with new reports of hotels planned for the coming future.

Blue Diamond, a Canadian Hotel chain, has 19 properties in Cuba but has signed two contracts for two more properties on the island.

The two hotels will be located in Cayo Coco and Varadero, two of Cuba’s most popular destinations on the island. Where the Varadero spa hotel will have 450 rooms, the Cayo Coco hotel will be slightly smaller with only 380 rooms.

In more exciting news, the island will soon be getting its first LGBTQIA+ inclusive hotel in Cayo Guillermo thanks to Gaviota Group. The hotel will have 250 rooms.

Gaviota isn’t going to stop there. They have plans to open another high-end property with 250 rooms in Cayo Guillermo and a 546-room property in Cayo Cruz. The Cayo Guillermo hotels are planned to open this year.

Thirteen other hotels are opening in Havana soon, including Palacio Cueto and Vedado Azul hotels during FITCuba 2019. Vedado 500 and Paseo del Prado will open in a few months.

There are 19 foreign hotel chains that manage 65 percent of Cuba’s hotel rooms.
