Alterra Mountain Company has named former Live Nation Entertainment executive Jared Smith president, effective June 7.
According to an Alterra spokeswoman, the company didn’t previously have anyone in the role of president, with that position left vacant after former president and COO David Perry transitioned to the role of executive president of environment, social and governance in mid-2019.
Smith joins Alterra after more than 15 years with Live Nation, where he most recently served as president and global chairman for Ticketmaster.
In his new role, Smith will oversee operations and further development of the company’s 15 resort destinations throughout the U.S. and Canada, which include Steamboat and Winter Park Resort in Colorado; Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain and Big Bear Mountain Resort in California; Stratton and Sugarbush in Vermont; Snowshoe in West Virginia; Tremblant in Quebec; Blue Mountain in Ontario; Crystal Mountain in Washington; Deer Valley and Solitude Mountain in Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures in British Columbia.
Smith’s appointment comes as Alterra reports a relatively encouraging performance this past ski season, with visitation and revenues down less than expected over the winter and early spring months.
