Several Marrakech hotels are operating following the earthquake

Marrakech’s luxury hotels are sharing status updates after Friday’s devastating earthquake, with many assuring the public that their staff, guests and properties have emerged from the disaster unscathed.

In a statement posted via Facebook, the Mandarin Oriental Marrakech said that its guests and employees were safe and that the resort “continues to operate as usual.”

“We are working closely with our team and the local authorities to assess the situation in the city and in the region and provide any assistance we can,” said the Mandarin Oriental Marrakech. “Marrakech is a resilient and vibrant city, and together, we will all overcome this adversity.”

L’Hotel Marrakech similarly reported over the weekend that it remains unimpacted and open for business as normal, as did the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, which announced on social media that its employees and guests were all safe.

La Mamounia Marrakech said that its personnel, patrons and property were all unharmed.

“We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support and kind messages we’ve received,” added La Mamounia in a Facebook post. “Your words have touched our hearts and strengthened our spirits.”

Likewise, the Oberoi Marrakech shared that all of its team members were uninjured, and that the property’s staff “acted swiftly to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort during the occurrence.” The Oberoi Marrakech also said it sustained no damage and that all services at the property remain fully functional.

Some hotels have pivoted their focus toward relief efforts, with the Sofitel Marrakech announcing on Facebook that it is currently collecting tents, blankets, mattresses, pillows, clothes, shoes and diapers, and is working to distribute donations in collaboration with “recognized associations that are currently active in the most affected areas.”
