Sandals Resorts International on May 24 will open the doors to its 260-room Sandals Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
The opening of the completely redone resort marks a return to the site for Sandals, which had previously operated a resort there for just over 10 years as the Sandals Dunn’s River Villaggio Golf Resort & Spa. Sandals parted ways with the resort in 2010.
The resort had most recently operated as the Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort & Spa.
The Sandals Dunn’s River is also notable for being the last project that Adam Stewart, Sandals’ executive chairman, and his late father, Sandals founder Butch Stewart, worked on together. Butch Stewart died in January 2021.
During a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration held at the resort ahead of its grand opening, Adam Stewart paid tribute to his father.
“This is the place where everything began for Sandals Resorts, and from where we stand, it’s a stunning representation of where we’re headed,” said Adam Stewart. “Sandals Dunn’s River is the continuation of my father’s journey to better.”
Fresh off a top-to-bottom revamp, the Sandals Dunn’s River offers 12 dining venues and nine bars, including a swim-up bar. Sandals Dunn’s River guests also have access to the restaurants, beaches and amenities at the nearby Sandals Ochi, with roundtrip transportation between the two resorts included as part of their stay.
The Sandals Dunn’s River is the 17th Sandals resort as well as the brand’s seventh in Jamaica.
