Mandarin Oriental plans its first resort in the Maldives

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has begun development of a resort in the Maldives it expects to open in 2025. It will mark the first under Mandarin Oriental management in that country.

The resort will stretch across three private islands along Bolidhuffaru Reef in South Male Atoll in the Indian Ocean, and it will be accessible by a 20-minute speedboat transfer from Male’s Velana Airport.

The property will offer 120 stand-alone villas, including 56 overwater accommodations and 64 beachfront units. The villas range in size from 2,150 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet.

Additionally, the resort will offer a half-dozen dining outlets, a beauty salon, a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor event space and wellness facilities, including 12 treatment suites, sauna and steam rooms.

Other planned amenities include a watersports and dive center, tennis courts, and both a kids and teens club.

The 84-acre site is being developed by Damac Properties, part of Dubai-based luxury real estate developer Damac Group.
