You can stay in a refurbished fire truck in the Lakes with working fireman pole

There are plenty of beautiful places to holiday in the UK, but if you don’t want to stay in a country pile or cottage it can be tricky to find something that’s a little more interesting.

Especially if you hate camping and want to stay somewhere quiet with children or toddlers.

Well, luckily for those looking for something outside of the box we’ve discovered a unique staycation property that will blow your socks off.

And, if your little one – or partner – is obsessed with fire trucks then it’s bound to be your dream holiday.

The Fire Truck Retreat is a two bedroom property built into a refurbished fire truck – and it even has a working fireman’s pole that you can slide down to go to breakfast.

Situation close to Blencathra Fells in Keswick on a working cattle farm this countryside retreat is perfect for explorers who want easy access to the stunning Lakes as well as a cool place to make family memories (and even take some Instagram snaps).

The bright red truck features an open plan living room with a pole, SmartTV, sofa and bean bags as well as a well equipped kitchen with an open hob, table and fridge.

Plus, there’s even a sauna, shower room and toilet so you can have a cheeky spa afternoon while staying.

The children’s bedroom is on the ground floor and will thrill toddlers with fire engine bedsteads and cool sleeping bags.

Head up the ladder to the master bedroom that had a king sized bed, TV, dressing table and access to the fireman’s pole.

Now, we know what you’re thinking and don’t worry. The pole is gated and lockable so little ones can’t sneak up the ladder and try to jump down when you’re asleep or outside.

There’s also a decked patio with seating outside the truck and a cabin filled with firemen costumes and a disused hose pipe for kids to act out their fireman dreams!

Nearby, there’s a playground with a slide and climbing frame where kids can let off some steam!

Meanwhile, you can head off into the Lakes and explore the natural beauty, scenic walks and watersports.

Our favourite places to check out?

Head to the Puzzling Place – a tiny museum with baffling optical illusions, puzzles and magical photo opportunities.

Or, spend an evening at the Theatre by the Lake where a number of shows are performed such as Pinocchio, The Ballad of Maria Marten, the Keswick Film Festival, 9 to 5 the Musical and the Borrowers.

And, in June there’s even a beer festival!

Plus, animal lovers can head to the Lake District Wildlife Park and spot birds of play, tapir, lemurs, otters, red pandas and more. There’s even a hug a bunny session!

The Fire Truck Retreat costs from £566 a week (in Oct 2022); kiddieholidays.co.uk.
