Zara Tindall gave birth to baby Lucas Tindall on 21 March earlier this year, joining a family of two older sisters, Mia and Lena, aged seven and three respectively. Mike and Zara live in a home on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate, the Princess Royal’s country residence out in Gloucestershire.

Sandringham House is nearly a four-hour drive away from the Gatcombe Park estate, so is the perfect getaway for the family of five who most likely want a break after welcoming a new baby to the family.

Hello Magazine reported that Zara and Mike Tindall would most likely be staying at Sandringham House for the end of their summer.

Travel restrictions were still quite shaky during summer 2021 with many people still unsure if certain countries were fine to visit, and which coronavirus tests they needed to purchase to legally go on holiday.

Therefore, Sandringham probably made the most sense to the Tindall family for a cute family getaway.

Zara and Mike, being parents to a seven-year-old, a three-year-old, and a five-month-old baby, would not have wanted to travel too far away from home.

The Queen’s eldest granddaughter spent every Christmas attending Sandringham for the Winter service with her mother Princess Anne and older brother Peter Philips.

Therefore, she knows the estate well and has continued to spend Christmas there in recent years with her husband and children.

Zara and Mike chose to spend their summer holiday in Sandringham House in 2018, just after they welcomed their second daughter Lena.

It seems as though Sandringham is the go-to royal residence for the Tindall family in need of a break after welcoming a new addition to the home.

The Queen has spent the majority of her Christmas holidays at the Norfolk property, with one notable exception being 2020.

Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip spent Christmas 2020 in Windsor Castle with a small household staff due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was thought to be the first time the couple did not spend Christmas at Sandringham House since the mid-1980s.

Sandringham house is perfect for a summer holiday and it is one of the Queen’s favourite country retreats.

The Norfolk estate has been a private home of the British monarchy since 1862.

Royal fans can currently visit the property and its gardens until October 2021, while the Queen is spending summer in Scotland.

Once described as ‘the most comfortable house in England’, Her Majesty traditionally spends two months of the winter season at the 20,000 acre estate.

Several members of the extended Royal Family tend to travel up for Christmas and New Year, including the Cambridges, Prince Charles and Camilla, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

The Norfolk-based house often welcomes royal members during the summertime, which is why Zara and Mike Tindall have taken advantage.

Queen Elizabeth II is currently spending her summer holidays at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, meaning that the public can visit Sandringham and its gardens until 14 October.

Currently with the Queen are Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Eugenie, who are all staying at Balmoral with Her Majesty, including Eugenie’s husband and new baby.

Prince Charles and Camilla have their own home on the Balmoral estate called Birkhall, which is where they stay when they visit the Queen.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge too have a home on the estate called Tam-Na-Ghar cottage, which was gifted to Prince William by the Queen Mother in 2002.
