Virgin is giving away free holidays to passengers who sit in dreaded middle seat

Most Brits have a seat preference when they prepare to jet off on holiday.

Some hope to bag the window seat so they can see the view from the window and lean on the wall to catch some sleep (although a flight attendant has warned holidaymakers not to lean their face on the window for gross reasons).

Other tourists like being placed in the aisle seat so they’re first to get their food and can pop to the toilet whenever they need to without disturbing others.

But, few people want to be assigned the middle seat when flying.

You don’t get the advantage of an easy escape or a more comfortable spot, so it's no wonder Brits are willing to pay extra to choose a seat and avoided the dreaded middle spot.

Now, however, Virgin Australia is making it worth your while if you’re willing to take the least-favoured seat.

Passengers who are placed in the centre seat – either by choice or because it’s been assigned to them – will be entered into a lottery to win big prizes.

A new price and winner will be selected each week, and there are a whopping $230,000 (£127,800) worth of prizes on offer for those willing to take the plunge.

These include a Virgin Voyages cruise in the Caribbean including Premium Economy return flights to the USA, flights and tickets to AFL away games for 2023, flights to Melbourne and an invite to the AFL “Before the Bounce” pre-game lunch.

You might also snag AFL Grand Final seats, a helicopter pub crawl will return flights.

Other winners may be given Velocity Platinum Status and a million points or even custom artwork by Australian artists.

The campaign is hoping to make the middle seat more attractive to holidaymakers.

Research from the airline found that a whopping 63% of people surveyed recently said they preferred the aisle seat while 35% liked the window.

Only 3% said they didn’t mind where they sat – but we’ll bet this is about to change thanks to the amazing prizes.

Sadly, you'll need to be heading to Australia if you want a chance to win a prize, as you'll need to fly in a middle seat on a Virgin Australia domestic flight by April 23 2023.

Hopeful passengers will then need to download the Virgin app and tap the Middle Seat Lottery square to enter the competition.

To enter the lottery you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member and over 18, and you must opt within 48 hours of your departure time.
